Adobe gives up on Flash for iPhone/iPad

The war between Apple and Adobe has finally ended. Adobe has raised their white flag and dropped all attempts to bring Flash to the iPhone/iPad. According to an article on CNET – Adobe’s principal product manager for Flash, Mike Chambers, has been quoted as saying “Flash has always been to enable cross browser, platform and device development – however this is the exact opposite of what Apple wants.”  Chambers is referring to the new iPhone 4.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) license changes that Apple recently released.  According to the SDK license, only Apple approved coding, such as Objective-C and C++, will be allowed to run on the iPhone/iPad.

Apple, while notoriously being a secretive company spoke out.  Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller has stated “Someone has it backwards–it is HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and H.264 (all supported by the iPhone and iPad) that are open and standard, while Adobe’s Flash is closed and proprietary”

Adobe has decided to change paths. They are now really pushing for updates to it’s Flash and Air software for Google Android phones, which has a large market share, and with new Droid phones coming out almost everyday (or so it seems) it seems to me that they Adobe has a great new Ally – Google.
