We love Wired.com here at The Big Apple Blog. Wired’s Gadget Lab recently posted a little piece about the ORIGINAL Apple TV.

Back in 1995 Apple released the Apple Interactive Television Box (ITV for short). The device (shown below) was a set-top box with Ethernet, ADB (the original Apple keyboard/mouse connector), SCSI, Audio and Video ports. The device was in a consumer trial run to 2,500 houses thanks to a partnership with British Telecom. The trial failed, and Apple pulled the plug on the device. This prototype recently sold on eBay for $46.00!!!!

Twelve years later, Apple would AppleTV – the device we all know of now. Apple has referred to the AppleTV as a “hobby” because of its average success. There are many ways to get your digital content, such as iTunes, Hulu, Boxee, etc. Also, there are better ways to get iTunes on your TV – such as a Mac Mini…but that’s for another post!
