Mark Papermaster, a former IBM employee who Apple hired (despite IBM suing Apple for hiring him) as the iPhone Hardware Department leader has left Apple. No comments from Papermaster or Apple have been stated on whether or not he was let go, or Papermaster decided to leave voluntarily.
Papermaster was in charge of overseeing the iPhone’s hardware and the eventual Antennagate. Papermaster has only been with Apple since April 2009. He will be replaced by Bob Mansfield, a current member of Apple’s senior executive team in his role as Senior Vice President of Mac Hardware Engineering (that’s a mouth full).
For those who were paying attention at the Press Conference last month, Steve Jobs, COO Tim Cook and Mansfield were present, and Papermaster was no where in sight. Most people do not believe he was even in attendance of the event. Mansfield dropped the Mac part of his title, and is now listed as Senior Vice President of Hardware. He was very involved with the design of the A4 chip, and the Retina Display.
So long Papermaster, it was nice to have met you.
