In Japan there have been numerous reports of first gen Ipod Nanos catching on fire, this is because the Lithium Ion battery overheats. Apple is addressing this problem, almost 5 years after the launch of the product, by replacing the nanos that were purchased between September 2005 and September 2006. All the details for a replacement are here. That being said they are in Japanese because Apple is only offering this deal in Japan. So if you are one of our Japanese readers and have a first gen iPod nano go ahead and apply for replacement, for the rest of you keep doing what your doing.
