Today’s Tech Tip Tool Thursday introduces you to the Spotlight feature of OS X and a handy trick you can take advantage of when using it.
Much like Windows, OS X allows you to search your entire computer for certain files. The only difference is that it is much easier to do in OS X. There is a magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner of your screen. This is where you look and say “oh, what is that!?!”
If you click on it, you should see a little window like this one.
At this window you can type in anything you want to search for. For example, if you have a document titled budget.xls stored somewhere on your computer but can’t find it, just type the word budget into Spotlight and it will search your entire computer for it.
One of the features I really like about Spotlight is that it can act as a calculator as well. Click on that magnifying glass icon again and start to type an equation. For the purpose of this exercise I have used 5+5.
Spotlight does the math and shows you the answer. Voila! Super fast and super easy!
