Du, the official telecom provider in the United Arab Emirates, tweeted over the weekend that FaceTime will not be available for customers. Though the iPhone has not yet officially launched in the UAE, Du decided to inform customers that FaceTime will be disabled.
There are local restrictions on the VoIP technology that block these kind of communications.
According to The Next Web, it seems that Apple pulled FaceTime, because they assumed that it wouldn’t fly with the local regulations. Apple realized their mistake, and reached out to the local telecoms to fix the issue, but the telecoms declined the fix.
