As many of you know the iPhone 4 pre-order began today. Many of you also know the pre-order process was not as smooth as expected; both the Apple and AT&T online stores were down due to the giant influx of users trying to ensure that they will be able to obtain the newest release of the iPhone immediately after launch on June 24th. Another problem has popped its head, for those of you who have not yet pre-ordered. AT&T is now reporting that they are sold out of iPhone 4s and will not be accepting any more pre-orders for launch day.
Here is the official statement from our “good friends” at AT&T:
“Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We’ll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. In addition, we will have devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis in our stores beginning on June 24.”
You know the old saying “No news is good news” well whoever thought that up must have been reading a press release from AT&T when they said it. Seriously, everything they’ve announced lately is just awful and affects their customers is a negative way. So thanks again AT&T for all the great updates that you’ve given us the past couple of days.
So now you’re fretting because you were unable to secure your iPhone pre-order and are unsure if/when you will ever receive that sparkly new iPhone that we all want. Well you shouldn’t be. Apple has announced that they plan to produce 3 million iPhones each month, that means you should be in possession of the iPhone 4 fairly soon and you will have other things to worry about; like dropping the phone and cracking the screen and whether or not you want to buy that hideous bumper case. If its really that important to you I’m sure you can find someone on launch day who is willing to sell you their iPhone for a premium way above Apple’s MSRP. The choice is yours: wait a couple of days and be ridiculed by your friends for not having the iPhone 4 on launch or pay a premium on the phone and feel stupid when your mom gets the phone a day or two later for a much cheaper price.
