I’m not usually a sucker for limited editions of any kind but when I heard Motorola and Verizon were teaming up to create an R2-D2 edition Droid 2 I was a little intrigued. Well today marks the beginning of Celebration V, the 5th annual Star Wars convention, so it was the perfect time for Verizon to showcase their new special edition phone. A picture of the phone leaked last night and I must say it is awesome looking. In addition to the new paint job the phone comes with exclusive Star Wars content, like videos, wallpapers, ringtones, and applications. Not only is this phone designed to look like R2-D2 it is labeled Empire Strikes Back edition, pretty much every Star Wars fan’s favorite movie, so it’s clear that Verizon is really trying to go after all of our inner Geek. And boy do they succeed, the first time I saw the picture I was a little confused then I took a good look at it and I saw something from my childhood a droid, that wouldn’t try to kill me like HAL 9000, no this droid was a friend and even though I couldn’t understand him he made me laugh. R2-D2 is different from all other robots he’s not there to be creepy or kill you he is there to add comic relief to one of the greatest Space Sagas of all time. The only regret I have about his phone is that sadly I will not be able to get it because I am not eligible for an upgrade. Regardless of how obsolete the device becomes, in all of two weeks, I wouldn’t care because of the cool paint job that resembles my favorite droid, R2-D2. Anyway here is the picture tell me what you think.
